Organ
transplant is a very tricky business. It is a very delicate process which even
after being performed successfully, come with certain side effects. But it is a
lifesaving surgery which has saved patients who were on the verge of death.
Almost everyone has the capability to donate organs; they just have to meet
some specific criteria. A person who has not yet reached the age of 18 years
can’t donate organs without the consent of a guardian or parent. A person with
any kind of serious disease, disorder or syndrome such as AIDS, cancer or some
severe infection can’t become an organ donor.
A perfectly healthy candidate also has to go
through extensive evaluation and testing to deem him fit for organ donation. An
ideal transplant takes place between two people having the same blood and
tissue type, but even if they don’t match the transplant is done after the
donor is given some special treatments so that the body of the recipient
doesn’t reject the organ.
Advantages of organ donation
· The
main pro of organ transplantation is that it saves lives. A single donor can
save multiple lives. Until a donor comes forward the patient has to undergo
expensive treatments, so the donor also save the patient financially.
· Organ
donation also provides a sort of consolation to the family of the deceased
donor. Losing a close person is a painful experience, but organ donation adds a
little goodness in the tragedy and helps the person’s friends and family to
move on.
· It
also offers a lot of options for medical research. Medical schools are always
looking for real life
bodies on which the students can work on. So if you
donate your whole body to them after your
death. This way your contribution
will be used for a great cause and will help many in the future.
