Organ transplantation is a major surgery, which carries many potential
drawbacks and risks, for instance the probability of having organ rejection.
But it also is a life-saving treatment, if everything works out well for you. Organ
donors make it possible to save someone’s life that have long been on the
waiting list, and give them the chance to live their life.
There are two main types of organ donation:
·
Living organ donation is when the transplant of organ
is done while the donor is alive, where kidney and liver transplant has been
working great. The donor can donate a portion or part of their kidney or liver,
where they give the recipient a chance to live, and they as a donor are also
able to function well with their life. Living donors could be spouses,
altruistic donor, family members or friends.
·
Deceased organ donation is when the option of living
donation doesn’t work out, so an organ’s part could be given to the recipient,
after a donor’s death, and most of the transplants work out this way. For
having the deceased donation, the person or the donor has to be in hospital
during the time of their death, and this treatment is possible only after
several attempts are made to save donor’s life, and has been declared brain
dead.
Tissue Donation:
Along with organ transplant there is also tissue transplant, which also
has been a life changing solution for the ones who are in need for it. Bones,
Skin, Veins, Valves, and Tendons are some of the types which can be donated for
tissue transplant.
Cornea Donation:
Also cornea donation is there, which has been helpful in restoring the
eyesight of many people who go blind, and anyone could be a donor for this
category as the eye colour, sight quality, and age wouldn’t impact the ability
of donating.
Only thing to be considered is that the donor has to be of 18 years at
least to be able to donate any tissue, organ, or eye.
