All you Need to Know About Kidney Transplant

Kidney transplant is usually done when there is a problem with the functioning of either of the kidneys. The treatments that take place are usually dialysis or transplant. Dialysis is more time and energy consuming and transplant is convenient to lead a life that is unrestricted and offers better quality.
What is known as kidney transplant?
Kidney transplant takes place when your kidney is replaced by a donor kidney for a healthier life. There is always a risk for surgery but one can maintain a healthy life with certain precautions.
Who is advised to get a kidney transplant?
Based on the severity of the condition, people ranging from young to old can get a transplant based on medical history and a through health check-up. Usually transplant is recommended over dialysis as it is a better option of treatment. If there are other complications due to age and other conditions such as diabetes, the doctor will carefully evaluate the condition and then recommend necessary treatment plans.
Patients often have a doubt about what happens during a surgery. Here is what you need to know about transplant surgery.
Procedure during surgery:
Both donor and the patient are admitted in advance, before the surgery. Medicine and anaesthetic is provided and they are placed adjacent to each other. The donor kidney is then removed and prepared for transplant. The renal artery of the new kidney and vein is connected through which blood flows. The kidney immediately starts working but in rare cases, takes a few days to start functioning.
What happens after the surgery?

One can resume daily activities and chores, after a kidney transplant, within 06 to 8 weeks of the surgery. During this time period, the patient is advised bed rest and complete recovery. They are not supposed to indulge in any kind of weight lifting activities. Medicines should be taken regularly as well as be prepared for side effects.
